The original creator of Minecraft, Notch, announced on X (Twitter) that he is working on a new game that is set to be a traditional roguelike mixed with a tile-based first-person dungeon crawler. He spoke publicly to get feedback from followers and responded to one fan that he “basically announced Minecraft 2”.
Although Notch created Minecraft many years ago, Microsoft acquired Mojang in 2014 for 2.5 Billion Dollars and became the owner of the IP. The game wouldn’t be named Minecraft 2 since Notch no longer has any ownership of the name. However, that won’t stop him from creating something inspired by his successful project.
Notch also says “I don’t super duper care exactly which game I make first (or even if I make more), but I do know I’m making one, so I figured I’d absolutely be willing to give it an honest shot in the form of a spiritual successor to Minecraft and put up a poll about it.”
The game developer hasn’t given any visuals of what this game will look like as it seems he’s still in very early development.
Would you play another game created by Notch?
