According to a recent interview over at IGN’s interview show, Rare is open to the idea for other studios to use its franchises for projects they feel it’s right for.
In the latest episode of IGN Unfiltered, Rare boss Craig Duncan mentioned games Killer Instinct and Project Spark using featuring characters from their titles as examples of other developers that have worked with their IPs. And even with the results of both titles, is still open to give other studios the opportunity to use their IPs, but only if they feel they have the right reason to use it.
Stated by Duncan in the interview:
Rare has this 32-year back catalog of heritage and IP, and while I wouldn’t say we were Disney or even Nintendo or SEGA or any of the other kind of long-term IP stalwarts in our business, people ask us to use stuff.
Duncan also on the topic said that the developer Rare chooses must be “the right team” and have “the right creativity”. Such as Yacht Club Games using Battletoads as bosses in Shovel Knight.
Knowing that Rare is still open to having their IPs cameo in other title is fun to see they enjoy other studios interested in working with their own titles and excites us for what might come in future titles in the future.
