Esports pioneer Riot Games as of lately has been busy with the recent release of the closed beta for upcoming tactical, first-person shooter Valorant. Just one day following the game’s beta debuting on Twitch, the game swiftly climbed to being one of the most viewed games on the entire streaming platform.
Howbeit, Riot Games is still occupied with other endeavors aside from Valorant, the company revealed today. In a new blog post, Riot Games reveals that the firm has acquired Hypixel Studios, the developer behind the upcoming and very popular game, Hytale.
Since our first meetings with Riot leadership long before their initial investment, we’ve found in Riot a partner with a similar commitment to empowering players. As development kicks into high gear, we’ll benefit from Riot’s resources, expertise, and experience while maintaining the operational independence that has enabled our success so far.
Aaron Donaghey, Hypixel Studios CEO.
Riot Games’ President Dylan Jadeja shares that the company has been shadowing Hypixel Games virtually since the team’s founding and since then has assisted the developer in the direction that Hypixel should take Hytale reaching closer to the game’s release. While the game is still schedule quite a bit away for a 2021 launch timeframe, fans that have followed the development process have become essential to bring the envisioned outcome that Hypixel aims for the game to be.
Now with the expendable resources at hand and experience that resides with Riot Games, Hypixel Studios can truly utilize these traits to further expand on the current development for Hytale. “Riot’s been an important partner from the start and this is a natural next step in our relationship.
“It’ll help the studio take another leap forward in our journey from mod team to professional developers, and allows the team to realize our vision for Hytale,” Hypixel Studios Co-Founder Simon Collins-Laflamme expresses on the recently made acquisition. The purchase made by Riot Games will also supply the European developer with a new studio in Northern Ireland and offer more office space for quality assurance; adding 20 more positions to the roster.
