The Pokémon IP has and remains to be a force for both The Pokémon Company as well as Nintendo. For decades, the series delivers new experiences and the tangible tabletop Pokémon Trading Card Game still stands amongst its digital counterparts. Last year, it was revealed that the Pokémon Trading Card Game will be integrated into a new mobile app, Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket. It released earlier this October.

Since then, the game went on to shatter records for The Pokémon Company. Within the first weekend, it generated more than 10 million installs on Android & iOS. By the first month of officially releasing, Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket grossed over $200 million. And ahead of Christmas in 2024, over 60 million downloads were accounted for the popular smartphone game.

This week, The Pokémon Company is rolling out new updates for Pokémon Trading Card Game. Alongside the long-awaited ‘Trade’ feature, a new ‘Space-Time Smackdown’ expansion centered after Gen 4 Pokémon is also coming this week. You can watch the trailer in the video below:

“The new trade feature will allow players to trade their digital Pokémon cards with friends, broadening options for growing card collections in Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket. Players will need to use two new items, trade hourglasses and trade tokens, in order to trade cards with a rarity of ¨1-4 and ★1 with cards of the same rarity. Upon release of the new feature, players will be able to trade certain cards from the Genetic Apex and Mythical Island expansions, with plans currently in place to expand the lineup of tradeable cards in future updates.”

It continues for the expansion: “The Space-Time Smackdown expansion includes two new digital booster packs featuring the Legendary Pokémon Dialga and Palkia. In addition, new and unique card illustrations will feature Pokémon new to Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket, including the fan-favourite Pokémon Lucario and the three first partner Pokémon from the Sinnoh region: Turtwig, Chimchar, and Piplup. Players around the world can collect new cards from the Space-Time Smackdown expansion by opening booster packs or by using the wonder pick feature.”
