X019: Obsidian Entertainment Reveals Grounded For Spring 2020

It wasn’t until last year’s Xbox-focuses event at X018 in Mexico City that Microsoft announced the acquisition of Obsidian Entertainment alongside InXile Entertainment for the company’s first-party roster of developers. Since then, we learned that the previous Fallout: New Vegas developer has later been working on The Outer Worlds as the title released just last month. Now, Obsidian is ready to introduce Grounded.

In the midst of this year’s X019 Inside Xbox live presentation, Obsidian Entertainment revealed their next project to be an online survival adventure set on the surface of the ground as you roam in thin new shrunk world. The best analogy I can give this is similar to Honey I Shrunk The Kids as you have to survive among tall grass, oversized insects, and littered household items.

Obsidian shares that this new experience will pit players to live with the tamed insects that inhabit the tall-grassed lands and while learning to defend yourself against the lesser-friendly beings that live within as well. Through crafting and exploring will assist towards your skills in this micro-sized environment. As for the dialogue of the game, it is shared that this will be split between a traditional narrative and environmental storytelling.

Grounded provides a mix of environmental and narrative driven story telling. Set in a versatile, handcrafted sandbox structure it allows players to create their own experience from the ground up. Tasks that may seem approachable when human-sized become a challenge in this dangerous backyard landscape.

Returning to the multiplayer aspect of Grounded, Obsidian shares that the title will support up to a party of four for you and three other friends to experience together. This new title is also said to be a conglomerate of “Obsidian DNA” following the years of experience imbedded in the studio leading up to the team’s latest released project. This announcement also unveiled that Grounded is “one of the many” new games that are currently being worked on at Obsidian Entertainment.

Grounded is set to release in Spring 2020; the game will be coming to Xbox Game Preview prior to the initial release.
