The landscape for MMOs continues to surprise many as titles like OldSchool RuneScape finds new life recently. After it was announced that the ongoing experience is officially receiving a new skill, Sailing, player excitement swelled immensely. Alongside a recent exodus of players from other MMOs like World of Warcraft, Jagex had to enact 18 additional worlds to accompany the new wave of players joining its servers.

One of the biggest surprises is how RuneScape has yet to be properly assimilated into console gaming. With the recent release of RuneScape: Dragonwilds, it is the closest to it as being the first entry to feature proper controller mapping. What is filling that gap is the long-standing KingsIsle Entertainment MMO Wizards101. Already, the game is out on Xbox via Game Preview, but will officially release later in October.

It is confirmed that both Xbox & PlayStation are to welcome Wizard101 with plans to ship its promised Nintendo Switch version at a later date. You can watch the new trailer in the video below:

KingsIsle Entertainment confirms that console crossplay will be available at launch, but, PC will remain on its own. “While all console players will be able to crossplay with each other, (no matter the console platform you play on), there will be no crossplay between console players and PC players.” The developer also verifies that accounts will not intertwine between platforms and only migrate within the family of hardware.

“If you create an account with a particular console and intend to use a different console from the same company, you will able to use the same account as long as the console is supported. […] You cannot play with an existing console account if you didn’t create that account on that particular platform. For example, you cannot play on the Nintendo Switch with an account you made on a PlayStation device.”
