This past January, Japanese players were greeted with the release of the seventh entry for RGG Studio’s Yakuza series, Like a Dragon. Reported after the launch of the title in the region, it was discovered that the latest installment for the action-RPG peaked digital sales overcoming all preceding releases for the Yakuza franchise. And with a larger market for the game in the west, it is presumed a localized version will ship shortly after.
However, when the announcement was made, the game was disclosed to be coming uniquely to Xbox One and Xbox Series X, for now at least. Despite the close ties Sega has established with Sony for Yakuza, the western version for Yakuza 7: Like a Dragon on PlayStation 4 has yet to be unveiled officially. But in light of the title officially coming to the west, a listing for the game on Amazon did surface shortly after for PlayStation 4.
Now, in a new uncovering that happened this weekend, it seems we might learn the whereabouts of the game’s arrival to the region as well as in Europe also. According to Gematsu on Twitter, the website discovered that Yakuza 7: Like a Dragon is listed on both the Electronic Software Rating Board (ESRB) and Pan European Game Information (PEGI).
Dissecting the unearthing, it discloses that the title is listed for Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PlayStation 4, and PC. Which is as expected since each version has been reported on previously. The game’s initial hint at a western debut broke out on Steam Database prior to its full announcement from Microsoft.
“This is an action role-playing game in which players follow the story of a low-level yakuza (Ichiban Kasuga) involved in a feud between rival clans,” the description reveals on the game’s ESRB listing. “Players perform quests, level-up combat skills, and fight enemy clans in turn-based combat. Players select attack moves/spells from a menu before watching characters punch, kick, and throw each other; spells/special moves include blasts of fire and over-the-top assists (e.g., a man attacking with a giant grater).”
Reiterating on Sony’s relationship with Sega, this continues to draw more questions on Yakuza 7 for the PlayStation platform. Such as, where is the PlayStation 5 version of the game? With Sega working with RGG Studio to ship the game for both current and next-generations of Xbox, you would think the next console from Sony would also receive the same attention. Hopefully that is clarified when the title gets properly announced later on.
This past week, Microsoft has disclosed that Yakuza Kiwami 2 will officially be hitting Xbox one and Windows 10 later this month. You can read the full announcement by heading here.
