The continuous craze for where the battle royale genre might drop next has been the top discussion since the rise of the new genre when PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds and Fortnite really launched the new game mode. And now with Call of Duty and the more latest Apex Legends have entered the scene, fans of all genre are pointing towards more ambitious franchises to adopt battle royale.
Recently, Thurott Editor Brad Sams shared from sources within 343 Industries that there is in fact a battle royale mode in development for Halo Infinite despite the internal studio denouncing it from coming to the next installment in the Halo franchise just last year. Any other information supporting his claim wasn’t provided, leaving this as a rumor at the time.
Soon after Sams’ report picked up traction, 343 Industries’ Frank O’Connor went quick to responding the rumor on ResetEra to reassure fans what’s happening for Infinite regarding the game’s multiplayer portion of the upcoming title.
“We will not talk about the launch content of Halo Infinite until we’re ready. I haven’t watched the video so if I am misinterpreting the headline as “‘Halo Infinite is launching with/as a Halo Battle Royale mode” that is still not the case,” O’Connor shares in the thread. “We are NOT doing this as of now – and no plans to…”
O’Connor adds on that by sharing that fans hungry for battle royale can go make one in Forge mode as he sees the new game type more as a mode rather than a genre. Explaining that the “mode” can be added to any of the already existing titles through some small editions to the game’s code regardless of the limitations of the game’s respected engine.
For the most part, the community surrounding Microsoft’s mascot series seem to be divided as for if battle royale should be the next addition for the first-person shooter. Some supporting the mode would translate well with the core gameplay and using ODSTs as the foundation for it. While others feel 343 Industries should strive away from it as the forthcoming title needs to preserve the franchise’s standard modes and take the more traditional approach for Infinite.
Previous rumors have surfaced detailing that amid the two potential Anaconda and Lockhart consoles that are said to launch next year by Microsoft, there is also word that Halo Infinite could possibly be a launch title for Xbox’s debut into the next generation of hardware.
Halo Infinite currently does not have a listed release date, but will be coming to Xbox One as confirmed by Frank O’Connor.
