On the PlayStation side of the discussion, entertainment is a primary focus for the platform alongside the gaming that the console is intended for. However, accessing shows and films on the platform has been juggled around this generation. Although there are services that users can pay for additionally like Netflix, Hulu, or Amazon Prime Video, there is no bundled package to distribute entertainment on PlayStation 4.

The firm has attempted to offer an all-in-on package under the name PlayStation Vue which would essentially offer a plethora of television networks that would stream directly through to the console without having to organize a financial plan for the package – it would be on flat price. But unfortunately, the initiative fell through and PlayStation Vue went off the air this past January.

And despite the outcome of the service, Sony is looking to other alternatives to dish out entertainment for PlayStation 4 users. One port of entry being PlayStation Now: the Xbox Game Pass equivalent to Sony’s console, offering a library of titles for players to stream directly to their console for one monthly fee.

The speculation was transcribed through a tweet made by David Ayer. The director recently shared a poster for his coming production The Tax Collector where it lists PlayStation Now to be offering the film when it releases later on.

Certainly, this could be a conceivable approach for Sony especially as the firm looks to capitalize on entertainment leading into the next-generation of consoles. With PlayStation Now beginning to grow to a wider audience, offering films and television could be the right way to introduce more subscribers to PlayStation Now in the long run.

Earlier in May, Sony disclosed that PlayStation Now has accumulated over 2.2 million subscribers since the service’s conception back in 2014. You can read the full report by heading here.
