The notable Shenmue series has been in a radio silent state since the release of its latest entry this past November. As Shenmue III arrived to PlayStation 4 and PC, it is presumed that developer Ys Net would not address future plans for the current entry or the overall series for quite some time following the game’s retail release. And now tacking on nine months since then, fans do conjure what could be underway now.

During the up and coming for Shenmue III, fans on PC were angered to learn that after being involved with the project’s Kickstarter campaign, the title would be offered via Epic Games Store on the platform. This was met with fans demanding refunds and Epic Games later addressed the situation to satisfy upset backers. But the agreement for the game to hit the storefront is only a timed agreement and is presumed to arrive to other platforms later on.

And now, the time looks to be just on the horizon. According to industry insider Dusk Golem on Twitter, there is some gripping news to be unveiled for the franchise in the coming weeks.

Howbeit, speculation on the matters does not look to fulfill the potential announcement. In that, the user told that what is planned to be shared later on in the near future will not be in regards to the Steam version of Shenmue III. Even more, the unannounced project is told to be irrelevant to the 2019-shipped title hitting other systems.

While fans are set to anticipate the announcement for the fourth entry in the series, it might be more primitive than that. Elaborating on a previous reporting, it was shared by employees part of Sega’s localization team who spared the first entry could arrive to Nintendo Switch. “We’re taking the fan’s opinions into consideration,” one employee shared in regards to a Switch port. “Following up on that might take some time, but it’s definitely something I want to consider.”

Taken that Dusk Golem has proven to offer accurate information on projects previously, it is still recommended to take all information and conjecture as a rumor until properly announced. The insider most recently broke the sound barrier when sharing that third-party developers are showing issues when developing games for the PlayStation 5. What do you hope to see arrive from the potential announcement in the near future?
