
While this past Ubisoft Forward that took place this week primarily focused on the coming entries underway from the publisher, such as Roller Champions now slated for early 2021, the firm has also reiterated on prior releases with new information to further reinvigorate the experience for now veteran players. That being Rainbow Six Siege, the publisher shares that the game will be hitting next-generation consoles later this year.
This certainly does come as a surprise seeing that the firm only brushed upon the idea previously back in February where the team responsible, Ubisoft Montreal, disclosed that versions for the respected new iterations for Xbox and PlayStation. Howbeit, following the line of events that happened to be the novel coronavirus, it was presumed we might see this new version sometime in the coming year due to reorganizing to abide to social distancing practices.
Regardless of what many predicted, the firm announced that Xbox Series X/Xbox Series S alongside PlayStation 5 can expect the updated version for Rainbow Six Siege this holiday season. Even more, the team verified 4K resolution and 120 frames per second are projected to be standard with these new versions. And yes, a free upgrade will be offered as well.

Gathered from the statement from the game’s developer, he discloses specifically that users are not on a limited timeframe to migrate to the next-generation. Adding on, he also tells that the upgrade will only be subjected based on your current platform of choice: hence, you can obtain the free upgrade when moving from the current Xbox to the new one of your choice and the same is said for PlayStation users.
One note worth making is that the firm did not reiterate on its previous statement about its potential free-to-play initiative. Athanassoff this past winter told PC Gamer that the possibility is on the table, but nothing could be spared regarding the future of Ubisoft’s pursuit for the change at the time.
