It was more than two years ago that Nintendo announced to be integrating its own online service iteration to allow users on its platform to play games offering multiplayer – similar to Xbox Live or PlayStation Plus. The subscription unlike its competitors would be offering the cheapest package of plans to purchase for online in three tiers; one-month, three-months, and 12-months. Reporting from July of last year, the service then stood at an impressive 10 million users.
The count then when referencing the 34 million Nintendo Switch owners illustrates that just roughly one-third of those players owned the additional service for online play. But as time continued, those who owned the system continued to grow alongside the number of subscribers for Nintendo Switch Online, gradually.
In the most recent Corporate Management Policy Briefing being uploaded by corporate Nintendo, the firm shares that the number now tallies well over 26 million users as of this month.
Nintendo Switch Online subscriptions continue to rise, and now includes over 26 million paid members. Membership numbers have grown alongside hardware sales at a steady pace, with spikes prompted by hit games that support online play. Our consumer base has quickly adopted this service in the two years that this since it launched.
And alike certain topography in Nintendo’s lifetime sales receiving higher elevations, the same is still expected to be established when newer, prominent entries arrive to Nintendo Switch later on. Not only that, but with the current set of rumors suggesting that a more optimized 4K unit is underway for an 2021 announcement, the prior forecast could repeat itself once again also.
Elsewhere recently regarding Nintendo Switch Online, the firm unveiled the next shipment of titles set to hit the NES & SNES libraries next week. Sharing at least four new properties to hit the catalogues only unique to service subscribers. You can read the full report by heading here.
