After more than a decade of waiting, an Assassin’s Creed game set in Feudal Japan arrived. Assassin’s Creed Shadows landed with a 8.5/10 review score from Rectify Gaming. “Its blend of action, stealth, and cultural immersion offers a rich and engaging experience that both honors the series’ roots and pushes its boundaries,” we wrote in our review. “Whether you’re a longtime fan or new to the series, Shadows provides a captivating journey through the shadows of feudal Japan.”
In the post-launch phase, Ubisoft did ship an expansion in the form of ‘Claws of Awaji’ in 2025. The developer deliver a full year of content to Assassin’s Creed Shadows. However, the game’s poor tracking did lead to immediate halt in content. It was revealed that Year 2 for Assassin’s Creed Shadows will be slimmer than the previous and a story expansion is no longer on the table for the coming year.
Now fast-forward to this week, Ubisoft returns with Update 1.1.1 which issues a final update to Assassin’s Creed Shadows. You can watch the update trailer in the video below:
“For our narrative-driven players looking for deep lore and more Templar action, our last free content drop “Black Tides” is definitely for you! It’s a story-capper for the game with about two hours of content wrapping up Naoe and Yasuke’s adventure,” associate game director Simon Lemay-Comtois. “For RPG players looking for an excuse to put all that accumulated gear to good use, we are introducing Domains: a replayability-focused set of challenges with tons of new unlockable gear and secret rewards.
“You’ll also find the third and final Modern Day Rift ‘Horizon’, which is a crucial part of that bridge connecting to Black Flag Resynced’s meta-narrative. And to round things up, we’re also adding two new cross-title Projects to the Animus Hub, which are challenges that exist both across Shadows and Black Flag Resynced. For those looking to claim Captain Kenway’s cool new toys on day one, you can get to work on it right now in Sengoku Japan!”
For obvious reasons, the update helps transition to the approaching release of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced. The game is a remake of the 2013 release Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. It is scheduled to release on July 9, 2026. You can read the full report by heading here.
