Sony Confirms PlayStation 5 Versions For No Man’s Sky & Hitman 3 Are Not Compatible With PlayStation VR Headset

Back in early August, Sony finally elaborated on the matters of which PlayStation 4 content will be available on the PlayStation 5. Offering more, the company also shared that the Dualshock 4 and PlayStation VR are also still functional on the next-generation console. However, there are some things worth noting: the devices mentioned are not compatible with PlayStation 5 titles.

Backwards compatible supported games can only be playable with a Dualshock 4 controller and the same can also be said for PlayStation VR, While the firm broke the news very transparently at the time, it is still questionable why that is especially as the same gamepad can be used on Xbox Series X|S. Regardless, the fact has been accepted for the console.

In a new statement provided by Sony when speaking to UploadVR, the firm shared that any titles with virtual reality support on PlayStation 5 will not be implemented for the PlayStation VR as it’s a PlayStation 4 product. “We have not announced PS5 titles for PS VR,” a Sony spokesperson disclosed to the outlet.

More specifically, games such as Hitman 3 and No Man’s Sky which both announced to receive PlayStation 5 versions will not support for the PlayStation VR headset. Noted, those games which will also have versions for PlayStation 4 can be played on PlayStation 5 via the backwards compatibility program.

For now, the future for virtual reality and what it holds on the PlayStation 5 is left unknown. But there has been reports which tell that PlayStation VR will receive its own dedicated headset for the next-generation console. UploadVR issues that signs for virtual reality on the console won’t make an appearance until 2022 at the earliest.
