When it comes to developer Dontnod Entertainment, the French game studio is most recognized for rearranging its palette for game development as each projects jump in perspective. Ranging from the action-adventure Remember Me to the story-driven episodic epic Life is Strange, the studio continues to challenge itself with new project as they come for the developer.
And now with the latest release Twin Mirror set to arrive this December, Dontnod Entertainment still has plenty of fuel left in the tank. When speaking with GamesBeat recently, Dontnod Entertainment CEO Oskar Guilbert shares that the studio has more than a handful of new projects that are worth keeping an eye out for as time continues onward.
“Our studio is growing, with six games in production now,” Guilbert tells GamesBeat. “Our recent releases have been very successful in terms of press reception and player reception. I’m very proud.” Guilbert is obviously mentioning the recent forming of its Montreal studio which opened earlier in May this year. He goes on to reference the ambition of the developer.
We don’t want to stick to the same thing every time. We innovate. We are reinventing ourselves in terms of quality, mechanics, and technology. Finding new ways of telling stories is really important.
In the interview, Guilbert goes on to reference the path Dontnod Entertainment has approached for its games with interactive narratives being the core of its games for majority of this console cycle. However, to avoid the same mistakes that Telltale Games made in the sense, Dontnod Entertainment is working to have a variable of projects that do not lock the studio in its own coffin too soon.
“We know it is important to renew the mechanics, the look and feel of our games, and not merely change the narrative,” Guilbert adds when elaborating on the firms continued approach to keep its games fresh for its users. Of course, the opening in Montreal ultimately adds to the ambitions for more employees to funnel the creativity for these new projects when more is to come. While it is closer to its core demographic, Dontnod Entertainment has more manpower to develop more games.
