While a mainline installment for TimeSplitters has been absent for more than a decade at least, the fen base surrounding the beloved video game franchise continues to be persistent in keeping the series from backing into obscurity. For one, fan-created projects became the forefront for TimeSplitters in the past decade. In 2012, TimeSplitters Rewind was officially announced with gameplay only being presented last year.

But, things started to appear hopeful for the series when THQ Nordic in 2018 acquired the publishing rights for the series. But, little on its plans happened to manifest since. However, things continue to grow brighter for the future of TimeSplitters later on when it was reported that Free Radical Design co-founder Steve Ellis accompanied THQ Nordic in regards for the future of TimeSplitters.

In a new announcement from publisher Deep Silver on Wednesday, Free Radical Design is being resurrected to work on a new TimeSplitters title. You can read a segment of the press release below:

The highly regarded Free Radical Design team has a twenty-two year heritage under various guises and is responsible for some of the best loved, most iconic video games of the early 2000s, including TimeSplitters – the first title it released in 2000.

The critically acclaimed TimeSplitters series went on to include two further iterations, all of which were loaded with humorous pop culture references as players battle across various locations and historical periods.

The Free Radical Design team will commence development on the next TimeSplitters game in the coming months; for now they are concentrating on building the studio, which will be situated in the Nottingham area. Open positions within the studio will be advertised in due course.

“To finally be able to confirm that the studio has been formed and that we have a plan for the next TimeSplitters game is incredible,” Steve Ellis, Free Radical Design Studio Development Director asserted. “While we cannot tell you anything more at the moment, we look forward to sharing information in the future.”

Previously, THQ Nordic had to go on to denounce suspicions of a TimeSplitters 2 remake. In SpellForce 3: Fallen God, there is an item titled ‘TimeSplitters 2 Remake’, but, the publisher stated it is only a gag and nothing more. You can read the full report by heading here.
