When the rise of the COVID-19 pandemic came to confront organizers for annual shows held across the world, these groups in the right mind pulled hosting in 2020. However, with this year and mass vaccinations being administered across the United States, it is still being determined whether or not in-person events will return in 2021 or not.
For BlizzCon, the World of Warcraft/Overwatch developer happened to be the ones to pull it show early on. Evidently, Blizzard Entertainment later went on to host its own digital show in response to no annual event. In 2021, the firm held the event in February to answer to its fans as the event did not land in November as anticipated.
But returning to the topic of possibly hosting BlizzCon live in California, the chances is still not likely. In fact, Blizzard Entertainment in a new blog post announced to be cancelling BlizzCon 2021 this November.
Building an in-person BlizzCon is an epic and complex affair that takes many months of preparation—not just for us, but also for the many talented production partners, esports pros, hosts, entertainers, artists, and other collaborators we team up with locally and globally to put all of the pieces together.
The ongoing complexities and uncertainties of the pandemic have impacted our ability to properly move forward on many of these fronts, and ultimately we’re now past the point where we’d be able to develop the kind of event we’d want to create for you in November.

Of course, Blizzard Entertainment will be planning another online show at the start of next year, the firm adds. “So in the meantime, we’re planning a global event for the early part of next year, combining an online show along the lines of our recent BlizzConline with smaller in-person gatherings.”
Recently, Blizzard Entertainment held a Overwatch 2 livestream to update fans on the coming sequel. In that, the developer pressed that the largest change to the game will be the transition to 5v5 matches with only one Tank per team. You can read the full report by heading here.
