Yes, The Last of Us II is officially finished now tapping close to its first full year at development for studio Naughty Dog. That is only stated thanks to the recent PlayStation 5 version for the game dropping just this past month which enables better overall experiences for the 2020-shipped title on the latest PlayStation hardware. But what Naughty Dog is working on next is left to uncertainty.

For starters, it is understood that the developer is already onto its next game thanks to the pattern in shifting management that commences ahead of new projects. But, there is also confirmation on what Naughty Dog is NOT working on. In a statement from co-president Even Wells, he explains that the team isn’t working on a new Jak & Daxter despite desiring to return to the beloved franchise.

But, a new pair of job postings reveals that discloses that what might be Naughty Dog’s next major release is a “standalone multiplayer game”. According to the listings for both a Gameplay Scripter & Level/Environment Designer spares that the unnamed project emphasizes on a solely online experience.

“Embark on Naughty Dog’s newest adventure – the studio’s first standalone multiplayer game,” the description reads for the Level/Environment Designer position. “We’re seeking to bring the same level of ambition and quality of our signature, story-driven games to this unique multiplayer project. This is a rare opportunity to make an impact in your discipline and craft an experience that will be enjoyed and shared by millions of players around the world.”

Similarly, the same is also echoed even further from the overview for the Gameplay Scripter listing as well. “Our powerful scripting language is foundational both to our trademark polish as well as the rapid prototyping of new systems and mechanics. If you know how to get impressive results from a game engine quickly and are excited join an innovative multiplayer team.”

Another possibility as to what Naughty Dog could be pursuing next is returning to Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. In Sony’s recent annual report reveals that the firm is aiming to administer the 2016 as a PC release later on. You can read the full report by heading here.
