The last-generation of PlayStation exclusive held a great significance to the single-player, action-adventure experience. Even with the discovery that The Last of Us Part II would not launch with its multiplayer component, the sequel was accepted to be strictly a lone experience like much of the other first-party releases at the time. But, the same story was not in stone for Ghost of Tsushima.

Instead, the game originally launched as a single-player game, but, the Sucker Punch Productions game was quickly met with an online mode that following fall. By October 2020, Ghost of Tsushima: Legends arrived to the PlayStation Store. The new experience brings cooperative multiplayer to the mix as players can band together to overcome foes.

Now, Sucker Punch Productions plans to orchestrate a standalone version for the game and it is arriving later this month – August 20th.

For those of you who don’t own Ghost of Tsushima yet but are interested in trying out Legends, starting on September 3 we’re also offering a new way to buy Legends on its own, without the single-player campaign starring Jin Sakai. This new standalone version of Legends will be available on PlayStation Store starting on September 3 for $19.99 / €19.99 / £15.99 on PS4 or PS5 consoles.

Darren Bridges, Sucker Punch Productions Senior Game Designer

Of course, the standalone version for Ghost of Tsushima: Legends is to also launch alongside the release for Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut which introduces the new Iki Island expansion that expands the story of the base game. In September, Rivals mode for Ghost of Tsushima: Legends is to drop which reshapes the foundation of the online mode, the studio explains.

Previously, Sony Interactive Entertainment & PlayStation Pictures announced that Ghost of Tsushima is expecting a film adaptation as well. Currently, there are no plans as to the release of the motion picture or details for the casting as of reporting. You can read the full report by heading here.
