The Call of Duty IP stands to remain one of the most influential series in the video game industry more than two decades following the original release. At the end of the 2010s, roughly a dozen titles remained in the top 20 most sold for that decade; falling behind Grand Theft Auto V which stood at the top of that list. But, the games continue to top best sellers list each month even when new trends like Halo Infinite shake the foundation.
Currently, the IP is left in an interesting spot with Microsoft planning to acquire Activision Blizzard for a large lump of change: $68 billion. Despite the arrangement said to be finalized well into the next fiscal year, there is questions about the exclusivity possibility being unique to Xbox. Despite that, the firm is reported to deliver three more entries well into 2023.
More eye-opening is a new report from Giant Freaking Robot which tells that a film is on the way. While talks of a cinematic universe was once in the air, the initial plans fell through. However, the recent statement to Men’s Journal with him “to bring one of the biggest, most badass games to the screen” is said to be Call of Duty.
From the report, it is told that Johnson is in discussion with studios for the production. Entirely it is suggested that the project has yet to be greenlight and will take sometime before the film is fully manifested. That includes casting alongside those to helm the motion picture behind the camera as well.
Previously, “The Rock” has been the center piece for a separate video game adaptation on the silver screen. In that, he starred in Rampage when the film hit theaters back in 2018. Despite the movie meeting below average reception, it stands to be one of the better performing video game films in recent age.
Recently it was told that developer Infinity Ward is to be returning to the Modern Warfare series with a second entry to its reboot initiative. The second game is to include a new engine alongside feature the introduction of a second Warzone as well. You can read the full report by heading here.
