While the PlayStation 5 was coming up to being the next step in Sony’s effort to dominate the video game market, the system would not launch with many flexible features. Oddly, the release of the system would not feature support for displays suited for 1440p resolution. This comes as a surprise with the packaging for the new console illustrates supported picture going all the way up to 8K.

In a later update from Sony Interactive Entertainment Platform Planning and Management Senior Vice President Hideaki Nishino expressed that the firm is looking to implement support for these screens in a future update. More than a year later, a beta update for PlayStation went live offering support for said displays and other features such as gamelists.

This week, a new update went live for the broad PlayStation 5 user base which includes 1440p support, game lists, and more. In a brief video, Sony shares that 1440p picture is now an achievable output on PlayStation 5. You can watch the video below:

“The update includes several highly-requested features like 1440p HDMI video output* and gamelists, as well as social features like the ability to request a Share Screen from a fellow party member, easily view new friends’ profiles, and receive a notification to help you join a friend’s game more quickly from a party chat,” Nishino writes in the blog post.

Elsewhere this week, Sony revealed the new Gray Collection for PlayStation 5. This includes new gray camo DualSense controller, 3D audio headset, and interchangeable plates for the new console. You can read the full report by heading here.
