For February 2023, it is no secret the number of anticipated releases for gaming. Even more, the long-awaited Lightfall expansion for Destiny 2 – the last of the slated content roadmap for the 2017 title – is officially out. And ahead of the release, Bungie took the liberty to celebrate Destiny 2 via collaborations with Ubisoft of all people.
In a crossover DLC with Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, players can don iconic Destiny 2 cosmetics in-game of Viking Age England. Additionally, PlayStation Plus members could also suit up for the last add-on as well. For February 2023 PlayStation Plus Essential subscribers, Destiny 2 DLC ‘Beyond Light’ was free for the entirety of the month and remains to be until March 6th.
Now with the launch of Destiny 2 Lightfall on Tuesday, Steam numbers are climbing as the new concurrent player count is at an all-time high. As of February 28th, SteamDB now records the highest concurrent player count to be 316,000 players. The previous milestone was 290,000 with the release of last year’s ‘Witch Queen’ expansion in 2022.
The growth shows to be a good sign for the newly welcomed PlayStation Studios team. Looking ahead, Sony Interactive Entertainment plans to utilize Bungie’s expertise in live-service titles to fuel its platform to bring titles with more longevity to its ecosystem – console and PC. While promise of 10 live-service games was made early on, the firm is also to focus on multiplatform projects as well.
Not to mention Sony’s reach into transmedia allowing Bungie to delve into other mediums such as television & film is also in its future now. According to a recent tweet by Tom Farnsworth, senior design lead at Bungie, the firm is already tackling multiple projects for PlayStation internally. You can read the full report by heading here.
