The Legend Of Zelda Series Producer Eiji Aonuma Speaks On Interest For Movie Adaptation

Over the past month, the talks of video game films has grown immensely following the success of Universal/Illumination’s The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Of course with that success comes with more milestones to be broken. For one, the picture was on track and has now overcoming to being the first video game feature to break $1 billion in the global box office. Previously, Nintendo CEO Shuntaro Furukawa has also spoke on more projects in the works for the silver screen with Illumination also.

Well, according to a new Polygon interview with The Legend of Zelda series’ producer Eiji Aomuna, he is interested in seeing the series being adapted into a full-length film. “I have to say, I am interested. For sure. But it’s not just me being interested in something that makes things happen, unfortunately.” Hidemaro Fujibayashi, game director for The Legend of Zelda: tears of the Kingdom added: “Maybe the voice of the fans is what’s important here.”

Previously, discussion of a Netflix show based on the Hyrule Kingdom franchise was said to be in the works. However, comedian Adam Conover when speaking on The Serfs times podcast did reveal that the show was effectively canceled thanks to him letting loose the plan. The report also revealed a separate Star Fox project that also met the same fate as well.

Similarly, it is said that Sonic the Hedgehog is following a similar plan also following the success of Sonic the Hedgehog 2. In a statement, producer Toby Ascher said: “We’re creating a Sonic cinematic universe, so we knew we were going to add characters, like Tails and Knuckles; new to the films but beloved by gamers all over the world.” You can read the full report by heading here.
