In the range of support for these current-generation Xbox & PlayStation systems, many of the newest titles are still available on preceding hardware. On PlayStation, titles like Horizon Forbidden West, God of War Ragnarok, and Gran Turismo 7 are playable. Additionally, the same can be said for Xbox with games like Peniment & Grounded. However, some projects did make way for unique releases on newer hardware.

In that, Demon’s Souls, Returnal, and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart are examples for Sony Interactive Entertainment emphasis on the newer hardware. Similarly, the Xbox firm did the same with Microsoft Flight Simulator, Redfall, Starfield, and Forza Motorsport coming up. But looking ahead, Microsoft confirms plans for this will be permanent moving forward.

From an interview with Axios Gaming, Xbox Game Studios head Matt Booty confirms that coming releases on the platform will officially discard support for Xbox One. “We’ve moved on to Gen 9,” Booty expressed. While a relief now, many fans were hoping this would be the case much sooner – especially during the release of Halo Infinite more than a year ago.

Elsewhere in a comment from Booty this week, he also explained an ongoing desire for Xbox’s release schedule. In Xbox Games Showcase recap, Booty said: “We showed a number of exciting titles at this year’s showcase including Starfield, Forza Motorsport, and Avowed and have an ambition to deliver at least four first-party games a year.”

As for the current wave of Xbox Series X|S systems, a new variant is on the way. For the sake of the Xbox Series S, a new carbon black iteration is set to release later this autumn and feature an internal 1 TB solid state drive. You can read the full report by heading here.
