Across all platforms, Capcom remains one of the most notable publishers originating in Japan. However, there has been a growing concern for Capcom’s intentions with its releases in recent months. In that, players are witnessing the concerning number of missing title from Capcom release on everything except Xbox specifically.
Although Switch, PlayStation, and PC are enjoying these titles, Xbox is left in the cold. Just this year alone, another three games have been added to the list. This June, Capcom revealed that two legacy collections – MARVEL vs. CAPCOM Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics & Ace Attorney Investigations Collection – are coming to all major systems excluding Xbox. And the same can now be said for SNK vs Capcom: SVC Chaos as well.
But in a growing number of reports that surfaced online, it appears this is due to a decision from Microsoft on Xbox’s backend. MT Framework, an in-house engine from Capcom, has been discontinued for support on the system. Windows Central’s Jez Corden corroborates this speculation.
“Our sources indicate that this is correct. Right now, Capcom has no pipeline for porting older MT Framework titles to Xbox’s modern ERA system, which makes it more expensive to deliver the same titles than it would porting them to PlayStation 4, Switch, or PC. Perhaps Microsoft could step in to lend a hand here? We can only hope,” Corden adds in an update note for one report.
Of course, this answers for the lacking number of titles hitting the Xbox Store. And its not to say Capcom has directly given up on a platform. In fact, the firm still supports releasing games in a growing digital market. As part of an investors Q&A, Capcom argued it will never cease support for tangible releases.
