Across the Xbox platform, Microsoft has continued to offer new features that breathe new life into its hardware. This year, we’ve witnessed this with its Xbox Cloud Gaming front. In May, it was revealed that mouse & keyboard support would roll out for users. Around the same time, pre-downloads for future updates were also a touted feature to skip time waiting for the next client install for the system.
Beyond that, new third-party offerings did come as well. In partnership with NVIDIA, GeForce Now was enabled allowing support to stream games directly through the cloud launcher on the Xbox platform. Additionally, Discord also launched more features including further integration to invite friends directly and even view livestreams through the service.
In a new announcement this week, a remembered feature absent since the jump to Xbox One is making a return. Friend requests are coming back to Xbox after a decade and is currently rolling out for the Alpha-Skip Ahead Insider Ring.
We’re thrilled to announce the return of friend requests! Now, you can easily send, accept, or delete friend requests, making it simpler to connect with others. Friends are now a two-way, invite-approved relationship, giving you more control and flexibility. Meanwhile, following someone remains a one-way connection, allowing you to stay updated with their shared content, whether it’s another player, club, or game.

“With updated relationships, and new privacy and notification settings, you can start managing your social experiences with Xbox just the way you like, from any device. […] Existing friends and followers will update automatically with this change. You’ll stay friends with people who had also added you as a friend previously and continue following anyone who hadn’t.
“To start managing your friends and followers on Xbox consoles, press the Xbox button to open the guide and head to the People tab. Here, you can find all your existing friends in the Friends list, accept (or delete) new friend requests, or find someone new and send a friend request of your own.”
