With more than 140+ million units sold 7 years after its launch, players for Nintendo are eager to understand what is the next major hardware release following Nintendo Switch. According to one report recently, Nintendo R&D has invested nearly $1 billion in what appears to be the Nintendo Switch successor. It is likely the large sum is to not continue the trend of its hardware underperforming compared to its predecessor.
Additionally, the firm appears to be also avoiding the issues of the previous pandemic at the start of the decade. To combat resellers online, Nintendo pledges to manufacture enough units for official retailers. Additionally, it appears production has already begun on the new system according to one rumor. Taking place in China, the new hardware is said to feature white Joy-Con peripherals similar to the OLED Model.
In a new development this week, images are surfacing online indicating to be renders for the next Nintendo console. While reassured to take the images lightly in case of being falsified, there could be some truth to the images. According to Video Game Chronicle, the shown hardware is legitimate, however, the renders of the complete unit are mockups.
The outlet indicates this following the recent developer visit that was hosted at the Nintendo of America offices on Monday. As per one source that attended the event, the hardware is the same as what was presented by Nintendo. @Nintendeal on X went on to indicate that the renders are unofficial while corroborating the legitimacy of the hardware from the photos.
Other information gathered from the images also reveals some of the changes compared to the base Nintendo Switch. In that, 12GB of RAM replaces 4GB in the original; new HDMI 2.1 compatibility; 256GB internal storage instead of the original’s 32GB. Another significant change is that the hardware also includes two internal fans.
Of course, time will truly ripen what is and isn’t correct information. With Nintendo pledging to share official word on the next system before the end of the fiscal year (March 31st, 2025), there is weight indicating a presentation could be coming later this fall.
