It has been confirmed that SEGA is developing a new Virtua Fighter game as executive vice president and head of SEGA’s Global Transmedia Group Justin Scarpone confirmed in an interview with Video Games Chronicle.
SEGA has already announced they are working on reboots for the Crazy Taxi, Jet Set Radio, Streets of Rage, and Shinobi franchises. Now, Virtua Fighter can be added to the list.
In the interview, Scarpone said, “So we have a suite of titles in development right now that fall into that legacy bucket, which we announced last year at The Game Awards; Crazy Taxi, Jet Set Radio, Streets of Rage, Shinobi, and we have another Virtua Fighter being developed. And so all that’s very exciting. And then in certain instances, we’re also doing animation series, or live-action films to augment that and be part of those roadmaps.”
It has been 3 years since we saw a new Virtua Fighter game with Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown which was released on PlayStation 4 on June 1, 2021.
With the success SEGA is having as of late with its video game releases in 2024, could a new Virtua Fighter be a success?
