Hyperkin Reveals New Xbox ‘Competitor’ Controller, Bringing Symmetrical Analog Sticks & DualSense-like Hall Effect Features

Although the ergonomics of the Xbox Controller does remain the most definitive for many, there is a big argument whether the firm is standing in the past whilst PlayStation and even Nintendo enhance its peripherals. Mainly on the subject of enhanced vibrations, the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller & PlayStation 5 DualSense do more than what Xbox offers. And, that is no secret to say the least.

However, there is the possibility a new controller is on the way to tackle this issue. As late as July this past summer, it was reported that Microsoft has been piecing together its own iteration on the DualSense to bring this tangible experience to Xbox. But from CES this week, Hyperkin emerges to unveil its own crack at an Xbox-like DualSense before the Xbox firm itself.

Originally unveiled in 2020, the Hyperkin ‘Competitor’ is seen to mimic the symmetrical analog stick placement similar to PlayStation. Additionally, it also showcases Hall Effect mechanisms in both the analog sticks & triggers to offer a premium experience to players. Unlike traditional components used in standard Xbox controllers, the emphasis on Hall Effect parts brings more durability and practicality to the peripheral. Being magnetic, Hall Effect for the analog sticks adds resistance which in favor reduces the chances of stick drift. And also being utilized in the triggers also offers better precision when pressure applied.

As for the new design, the ‘Competitor’ does not hide where it takes inspiration from. Not only does it share a striking resemblance to the DualSense, it also even borrows the same D-Pad design as well. Alongside the sticks being parallel, the ‘Competitor’ moreover adopts the black-white color scheme with its own split approach as well.
