This past October ushered in the release for Until Dawn. The remaster for the PlayStation 4 exclusive welcomed a new makeover in Unreal Engine 5 for PlayStation 5 & PC. However, the reception of the re-release only kicked at the down Sony following its early disappointment that summer. Post-mortem for Until Dawn revealed that the game is tracking similar numbers to Concord before it.
Around the same time, developer Ballistic Moon was also hit with layoffs. In September, about 40 employees were laid off. And another wave of firings took place with a reported 20 or so more let go as well for the PlayStation Studios team. With only one title under its belt and being acquired only a few years prior, the shape the developer is left in is worrisome.
According to a new development from InsiderGaming, the state of Ballistic Moon is rather dire. Speaking to sources within the team – more so those that are still remaining – the team is “effectively closed,” one source told the outlet. Several departments are said to be with no staff and only the founders & “at most” a handful employees are to remain at Ballistic Moon currently.
“People are sharing bugs they’ve found in the game to make the team aware but there is no one working on patch support for the game anymore,” the source told InsiderGaming on the state of Until Dawn post-launch support. While anticipating more work after the remaster, there has been no sign from its parent company either. “Sony said after the game they might greenlight more funding for updates, but looks like they didn’t.”
Although unclear the exact future for Ballistic Moon, it appears the team is not moving forward with Until Dawn. In a previous report, it was indicated that a new entry for the series is being worked on. Instead, it is by Firesprite Games rather than Ballistic Moon. You can read the full report by heading here.
