Complusion Games released South of Midnight on April 8 on Xbox Series X|S and PC. It was also released on day one on Xbox and PC Game Pass, which helped the total player count for the game in its first month.
Studio Head Guillaume Provost told GameRant in an interview that South of Midnight reached over 1 million players. This was also the first major release since Microsoft acquired Compulsion Games in 2018.
Internally, Compulsion Games believes that South of Midnight’s success is due to its setting in a region that is underserved in the video game market.
In our review for South of Midnight, we scored the game a 9.5 out of 10. It is a rare kind of game: a haunting, heartfelt Southern folktale with modern soul. It’s weird in all the right ways, ambitious in its themes, and stunning in execution.
South of Midnight isn’t the only game benefiting from Game Pass as of late. We have seen Atomfall from Rebellion reach over 2 million players within the first month of its release. A large part of that was due to its Game Pass release day one.
Other games that have been released on Game Pass as of late include The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, which has reached over 4 million players. Also, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, which has received great reception from fans.
Is South of Midnight coming to PS5?
It has not been confirmed by Compulsion Games or Microsoft if South of Midnight will be coming to PS5. However, we should not be shocked if it does come to PlayStation 5 anytime in the future. We have seen Forza Horizon 5 being the most recent game to join PS5.
