Last winter, PlayStation was met with a massive success with the release of Helldivers 2. Only releasing on PlayStation 5 & PC, the game was met with over 12 million players across both platforms. The game was a renowned entry for many and has been reflected to being a definitive online experience. It even received a specialized DualSense controller as well earlier in 2025.
However, alike most live-service games, there is a fall off. During its weakest point, Helldivers 2 was met with a dry spill which resulted in roughly 90 percent of its peak player count being absent from its lobbies. Despite that, many players were adamant that the addition of Xbox would quell that issue. And it was in early July that PlayStation confirmed Helldivers 2 will be arriving to Xbox Series X|S in August.
Now as we are less than a couple weeks away, new information has opened up about Helldivers 2 and its reasoning on Xbox. While assumed Arrowhead Game Studios pushed for the port, it was revealed via Discord that PlayStation was adamant on the port instead. You can view the message in the image below:

Shams Jorjani, Arrowhead Game Studios CEO sent the message in response to a question fan. Additionally, Jorjani also went ahead to praise PlayStation for the decision for Helldivers 2 on Xbox. “I think it’s one of the coolest things they’ve done. They’re killing it” Similarly, the same thing was said about Lego Horizon Adventure as well when it was revealed Lego was not the party pushing for a release on Nintendo Switch.
Recently, PlayStation has also addressed its efforts for future releases. Translated by @Genki_JPN on X, it is revealed that the firm is eager to step away from its hardware-focused business model in favor to expand PlayStation as a platform to cast a net for a wider community.
