Walkthrough

To begin this mission, it’s another linear path you’ll want to follow, Javier, while riding your horse. It’s optional to talk with him.
Once you reach the place where you hear John’s calls, dismount from the horse and interact with your saddlebag. Once you are at your saddlebag, you’ll want to go to the top of the wheel and take out the shotgun, which is the second weapon you’ll own.
Walk with Javier as you go through the side of a large mountain that is also slippery. Once you go through this linear part, you’ll run into John Marston.
As you take John back, you’ll run into a pack of wolves the first time. Walk away from Javier, use the call button to distract them. You can use your pistol or shotgun to attack the wolves. It’s best to use the shotgun, but you’ll need to make sure not to get bitten while reloading.
Mount the horse. Travel a little further, and there will be another group of wolves you’ll run into. When aiming, your sights will look at the nearest wolf, allowing you to kill them without stopping. Your goal is to make sure they don’t get to John, or else the mission will fail.
After that, you’ll walk to the camp, which will end the second mission of Chapter 1.
Next, it’s onto the Old Friends.
