Borderlands 4 Already Faces Record Engagement For The Franchise On Steam

The Borderlands franchise still continues now especially after the 2K/Take-Two Interactive acquisition back in 2024. That same summer, it was revealed that Borderlands 4 is officially coming in 2025. And as excitement grew for another return to Pandora, Gearbox Software revealed that the release date for Borderlands 4 would be earlier than promised; now slated to release September 12th.

Leading up to the game’s release, there has been controversy surrounding its delivery. Mainly, comments of the game’s $80 price tag. However, that has since then been corrected to the standard $70 now. Other details regarding Borderlands 4 includes a collaboration with Gunnar on themed glasses inspired by the upcoming title as well.

Now with the game launching today on Friday, Borderlands 4 is doing more than just delivering. Many on Steam are already flocking to the newest installment of the series and it is overshadowing prior entries in the series on the platform. Currently, Borderlands 4 via Steam Charts is facing all-time peak player count of 206,177 players.

To put this into perspective, the most played entry prior to Borderlands 4 was Borderlands 2 and that was only at 123,596 at its height. Other installments like the preceding Borderlands 3 on Steam only accounted for 93,597 at its all-time peak. Additionally, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel only witnessed 67,244 alongside Borderlands Game Of The Year which only met 23,443 at its most.

As for Borderlands 4, players can redeem a unique ECHO-4 Drone Skin via Twitch. As part of a collaborative Twitch Drop, users have the opportunity to acquire the skin for participating with the game’s Twitch channel.
