Alongside League of Legends & Valorant, Riot Games is piecing together another surefire hit internally as well. This time, the new title is 2XKO. Of course, this ties in the universe of its MOBA with likeness & characters from League of Legends as the game branches to offer an intuitive addition to FGC.
Originally, 2XKO was announced in 2019 as Project L. At the time, it was a barebones version as Riot Games wanted to collaborate with those familiar in the fighting game scene to properly deliver a fulfilling experience that meets the current standards of the genre. By 2022, Riot Games confirmed that then-Project L would be a free-to-play experience and not require a purchase like many premium fighting game releases.
Now come next week, 2XKO is to launch on PC. Riot Games confirms the title will ship as an Early Access build and plan to iterate on the title as a full version is to follow it. You can watch the announcement trailer in the video below:
“Closed Beta ends on October 7, and 2XKO Early Access kicks off the same day. This is when we’re rolling out our very first full-feature version of the game, including a full season of content and a few new features like combo trials,” Riot Games writes. “We’ve seen lots of love for our newest champions, Vi and Blitzcrank, as well as a ton of community tournaments popping up all over the world.”
The team continues: “Closed Beta was our first time rolling out our online systems at a large scale, and our team has been tuning matchmaking, fixing bugs, and making sure everything’s working correctly. So far, everything’s been holding up pretty well, so we’re ready to talk about what comes next for the game. […] We’ll be using this time to dial in our Battle Pass and Ranked systems, and to do some balance tuning. Starting in Early Access, there won’t be any more content resets. That means anything you unlock after October 7 is yours to keep.”
