The game offers no quest marker for each wind chime, so look carefully to get your hands on these items. In this guide, we’ll discuss how to get the Armor of Undying in Ghost of Yotei, including some tips to beat Undying Samurai.
What is the Armor of Undying

The Armor of the Undying is the best armor in the game for enhancing survivability. The whole deal of this armor is that you can trigger various buffs if you align your weapons. Use the right weapon to counter the one your opponent is holding. So, katana versus katana, jewel blades versus spears, and more. If you stagger an enemy with this armor equipped, you will restore some health. While it is certainly not as strong as using spirit to heal, you can trigger this effect rather quickly and very often if you keep switching your weapons up.
To make the most of this armor, you want to get your hands on all weapons available. So, make sure to go after the Weapon Sensei quests as soon as they pop up. The second buff on the armor is also pretty good, increasing the window to perform perfect parries and dodges when your weapons are aligned. The final perk gives focus attacks a chance to inflict extra stagger damage.
- If the weapon is aligned, Staggering enemies restores a major amount of Health.
- If the weapon is aligned, the window to perform Perfect Parry and Perfect Dodge is increased by a minor amount.
- If the weapon is aligned, Focus Attacks have a minor chance to increase Stagger damage.
In case you’re confused, focus attacks refer to your charged heavy attacks and any follow-up combos tied to them. However, this effect unfortunately does not seem to trigger very often. Still, the other two perks on this armor more than make up for it. This is the great get that you can already grab very early.
How to Get the Armor of Undying
The Armor of Undying in Ghost of Yotei is obtained by completing The Undying Samurai. Make your way to the Storyteller’s Rest in Ishikari Plain and pick up 4 Bell Chimes. Once you have them, defeat the Undying Samurai after moving to the Undying Samurai’s Lair. Your goal is to speak with the Ugetsu and listen to the tale of the Undying Samurai. Collect four Wind Chimes and locate the Undying Samurai. Put the Wind Chimes on the Posts and eliminate the Undying Samurai.
Locate the Storyteller
Make your way to the northwest side of the Ishikari Plain. Go to the east side of the Ishikari Market. Continue moving till you find an abandoned village. Speak with the NPC near the rock in this village. He will inform you about the rumor of a Storyteller and the Undying Samurai. A Mythic Tale will initiate, and you need to find Ugetsu the Storyteller. This will allow you to learn more about the Undying Samurai to initiate the Undying Samurai quest.
Go to the north of the abandoned village to locate the Ugetsu the Storyteller in the Ishikari Plain. You will eventually reach the White Deer Woodlands and find a bear near the tree. You can find Ugetsu on the opposite side of the bear in Storyteller’s Rest. Speak with this NPC and hear the story of the Undying Samurai. Your new objective is to collect four Wind Chimes.
Here’s a step-by-step location guide to find each Wind Chimes for Ugetsu the Storyteller.
1. Wind Chime #1

Locating the Wind Chimes can be challenging, as they are located in different locations on the map. You can collect the found Wind Chime from the north of Ugetsu the Storyteller. Find a dangerous bear eating a corpse near the tree. Equip your weapon and initiate a fight with this deadly bear. Pick up the Wind Chime from the tree. Use this Wind Chime to find another one by swiping up on the Touch Pad. You need to find where the Wind Chime is active. This will make a noise, and the blue fabric will whirl.
2. Wind Chime #2

Find the spear on the edge of a cliff to get your hands on the second Wind Chime. Make your way to the south side of the Ugetsu the Storyteller. Open the map and you will notice that you are on the text “Nakagoya Spring”. Pick up the Wind Chime from here between the “K” and “A”.
3. Wind Chime #3

Collecting this Wind Chime is harder to obtain because you need parkour. Move to the west side of the Ugetsu the Storyteller to get inside the cliff. You can find this cliff before the Stone Jaw Coast. Open the map, you’ll notice being standing between “S” and “T” in “Coast”.
Approach the hanging corpse in the tree and use the grapple hook by holding R2. Doing so allows you to pull the corpse down to the ground. The Wind Chime is dropped with the corpse. Find the safe path to go through the cliff. Move down to a rocky path to pick up the Wind Chime.
4. Wind Chime #4

Move to the Rumoi River to collect the last Wind Chime. This river is located to the east of the Ugetsu the Storyteller. Find the tree in the center of the river to find the Wind Chime. You can find below the “U” and “M” of “Rumoi”. Upon reaching the tree, you will find out that Ronin is looting the corpse. Equip your weapon immediately and defeat the ronin to take the Wind Charm from the corpse.
Undying Samurai Location

Find the Undying Samurai using the Wind Chimes. Move to the north of Stone Jaw Coast and west of Rumoi River to locate this hideout of Undying Samurai. Go to the edge of the Ishikari Plain. Use the Wind Chimes by Swiping Up on the Touchpad to find the boss. Move in the direction where they sing loudly. Move down from the area where the sticks with armor are attached after moving to the cliff.
You can climb down by using the rope attached to a tree. Follow the straight path down to get to the bottom level. Get inside the cave filled with water and find the four wooden posts. Put the Wind Chimes in it to trigger a cutscene, and Undying Samurai will appear in the arena.
How to Beat the Undying Samurai

The Undying Samurai comes with two phases. You can parry the attack during a fight. He will start wielding a shield after you take his 25% health. Some deadly attacks can’t be parried, but you can dodge them. Using the Perfect Parry skill allows you to parry his attacks significantly easier. If you have Charms, use the ones that increase your Standoff streak to deal additional damage. Focus on deflecting his standard sword slashes and combos.
Dodge or hit him from behind while the boss is trying to attack with a red glint or when he uses his kama. He may glow white to try and lower his own posture after his posture is near breaking. You need to interrupt this move by attacking him with your weapon. Keep an eye on your own yellow posture bar. Back away and hold the block to lower it faster if it’s full.
