Ongoing conversations regarding Xbox as a whole is a mixed bag after the past week of news that rolled out for the platform. Since its Xbox Game Pass restructuring, many only are completely against Microsoft. And when rumors came out spinning that the firm was already decided on killing efforts on in-house hardware, many ate up the claim with excitement on the end of Xbox.

However, in a statement to Windows Central Microsoft did confirm the rumor to be false with things still in full swing on its plans. What are those plans? Earlier in the year, AMD & Microsoft revealed a new multi-year partnership for first-party hardware that will deliver new tech to its users in that regard. Both firms dressed the relationship to being beneficial to console as well as PC and Xbox Cloud users.

Now for further confirmation on things in motion yet to cease for next-generation Xbox, an AMD engineer recently spoke out on plans for Microsoft’s next console. Speaking anonymously to Moore’s Law is Dead, the YouTuber shared the statement which verified that Project Magnus – the codename for the new Xbox hardware – is still in development. You can watch the segment of the livestream in the video below:

“As far as I [AMD Engineer] know, XBOX Magnus is still full steam ahead. We are literally discussing next-steps in a progress update on Friday [10/03/25],” the statement reads. “However, I would caution this ‘Magnus APU’ is whatever Microsoft wants to call it.” The source continues by elaborating on what this new hardware might be from understanding Microsoft’s approach for Magnus.

“It was originally called an ‘XBOX Project’, but who knows – maybe that means a PC-Console hybrid in 2027 …or even a literal gaming PC APU that is an ‘XBOX’ in name only…” All that has been addressed on the hardware is what Sarah Bond stated previously: “largest technological leap [for Xbox]”.
