
Just this week, there has been major mobile gaming announcements from some of the biggest platform holders. On the PlayStation side of the world, Sony Interactive Entertainment unveiled Ratchet & Clank: Ranger Rumble. The game stands as a mobile arena shooter. The firm also announced Horizon Steel Frontiers – an MMO RPG for mobile devices alongside PC.
As for what Xbox is to offer, we have seen titles before such as Mighty Doom which hit smartphones back in 2023. Additionally, there are other plans internally for smaller scale titles under Microsoft. Previously, it was reported that a new division between Xbox & Activision would form to work on big IPs through a smaller lens.
Now on Thursday, King & Mojang Studios revealed a new surprise soft launch for a new mobile title, Minecraft Blast. The game is currently available only for iOS and that it is being tested in Malaysia uniquely for now. “Early testing in select markets is common for mobile game development. These regions were selected based on specific testing requirements. The playtest is time-limited, up to a week or two, to gather early feedback and refine the experience before broader release,” it explains in the FAQ.
“Mojang Studios is teaming up with our talented sister studio King (creators of Candy Crush Saga) to work on a new, Minecraft-themed mobile project: Minecraft Blast!” the page for the game shares. “We’re extremely early days with this project and plan to start rolling out small, limited-run tests in select markets to help us gather early feedback and involve our community from the start.”
The team also explains: “A small portion of content and features are available to test core gameplay. While the game is still in early stages of development, the game will evolve with expanded content based on learnings and feedback.” As for your progression, data will not carry over. “progress made during the playtest will not carry over to future phases. Each test is designed to help us gather feedback and improve the game, so we’ll be resetting progress between phases.”
