Anticipating what the next release from Sega will be pertaining to its blue blur mascot has yet to be determined to the fullest extent. One likely candidate is Sonic Frontiers: Definitive Edition which surfaced on rating boards recently. There is also Sonic Blitz: the game appeared through trademark filings by Sega in 2025 that has yet to fully materialize either.

Additionally, there has been speculation of a Sonic Heroes remaster of sorts as well. In 2023, it appeared that Sega & Sonic Team were hinting at the 2003 release making a return for modern systems. Of course, it has not popped its head out beyond the initial claims. And with Sonic the Hedgehog head Takashi Iizuka further aging, there is still his desire to make a Sonic RPG of sorts somewhere in his career which could take form in the future also.

One rumor that appeared recently was a remake for the original Sega CD 1993 release Sonic CD. Former Sega of America product manager Mike Fischer in an interview with Sega-16 disclosed hearing whispers of a new version of the classic title. “I’ve heard that they’re remaking Sonic CD, which would be wonderful,” he responded when speaking about his fondness for Sonic Mania.

While Fischer did work for Sega, it can also be considered that what he heard was not fully a remake or reimagining for Sonic CD. There are instances where a mix in translation or misinterpretation of projects do take place. Someone who has been correct about Sega recently, leaking Jet Set Radio details, did state that the claims of a Sonic CD remake is untrue. “There’s not a Sonic Remake.,” the leaker said in an X post. “They aren’t doing that.”

The timing is almost perfect too if the claims happen to be true after all. Recently, Paramount Studios officially casted Kristen Bell (Frozen, Assassin’s Creed) for Sonic the Hedgehog 4. The game follows a very similar structure to Sonic CD which stars Amy as well as Metal Sonic – both who were introduced in the 1993 game. You can read the full report by heading here.

Are you hoping the claims of a Sonic CD remake are true or no?
