Summary

8.5/10

Electric Blue is a blast of blue raspberry nostalgia with an incredibly smooth body and a flavor that hits exactly what it promises. It tastes great, it is fun, and it feels different enough to stand out in Monster’s expanding catalog. The sugar content is the one major drawback, but if you enjoy sweeter energy drinks or want that classic popsicle vibe, this one delivers in a big way.

Monster Energy just revealed the newest addition to its line during the National Association of Convenience Stores Expo, and Electric Blue is finally rolling into stores this week. While I have not yet been able to track down a can of the Orange Dreamsicle flavor, I have already reached out to Monster to secure samples so I can put together a full breakdown of the entire new line once it becomes available. For now, let us crack open Electric Blue and see what the excitement is about.

Monster describes Electric Blue as a shockingly smooth blue raspberry popsicle in a can, and honestly that description nails it. From the first sip, it tastes so much like a melted popsicle that it feels like I should be somewhere more tropical on a hot beach then at home by the fire in this cold weather. The flavor is bright, sweet, and colder tasting than it has any right to be, almost like the drink tricks your brain into thinking it came straight out of a freezer.

The shockingly smooth claim is also spot on. The carbonation is incredibly light, giving the drink a soft mouthfeel that lands closer to nitrogen style sodas and energy drinks. It is easy to sip, almost too easy, and it goes down much quicker than the more sharply carbonated Monster flavors.

One very surprising detail is that this one uses real sugar. No corn syrup at all, which definitely helps the flavor pop in a cleaner and more nostalgic way. The downside is that this comes at a major cost. Electric Blue contains a massive amount of sugar. One can sits at one hundred and two percent of your daily added sugar intake. Monster has been crushing it with its zero sugar line, so jumping back to a fully sugared drink feels like a steep curve. They even add sucralose on top of the real sugar, which raises the question of whether the drink truly needed that extra sweetness.

For those who want the full nutritional snapshot, here are the numbers. One can contains two hundred ten calories, zero grams of fat, two hundred fifty milligrams of sodium, fifty four grams of carbohydrates, fifty one grams of sugar which includes fifty one grams of added sugar, zero grams of protein, and one hundred sixty milligrams of caffeine.
