Dead Island 3 is in development, expected to be released in 2028

Dambuster Studios released Dead Island 2 in April 2023 for Xbox Series, PC, and PlayStation 5. The game was a success, reaching over 10 million players since its release as of October 2024. The game would then go on to receive major content updates.

According to a financial statement from Dambuster Studios and spotted by Timur222 on X (Twitter), Dead Island 3 is in early production with “feature, character, world, and story design moving at pace”. The projected release window for Dead Island 3 is Q1 or Q2 2028.

The statement also mentions “Once the Luna and Mac versions of Dead Island 2 are complete, all of Dambuster’s QA team will also be assigned to Dead Island 3”.

The document doesn’t tease anything about what else could be coming to the game. However, as of March 2025, Dambuster Studios has employed 194 employees. If Dead Island 3 releases in 2028, that will make it almost exactly 5 years since the last game.
