More than a handful of years ago, Ubisoft shipped Watch Dogs: Legion – the third entry in the series. In our review, Rectify Gaming scored the title a 8.3/10. “Watch Dogs: Legion isn’t the home run like we wanted, but there are enough enjoyable moments to warrant a recommendation from me,” we concluded in the review.

However, since then there has been little update on the IP. In a report from spring 2024, it was understood that Watch Dogs was officially canned internally at Ubisoft. For a game considered to be the counterpart to Assassin’s Creed at the publisher came at a surprise. And while a new release is nowhere to be seen, there was a sequel to its 2020 title with a new audio experience, ‘Watch Dogs: Truth’.

Recently, word has surfaced providing an update on Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs franchise. According to InsiderGaming’s Tom Henderson, Watch Dogs is understood to be “completely dead”. He explained the reasoning is likely due to the response to Watch Dogs: Legion when it released for the latest console lineup in 2020. You can watch the statement in the video segment below:

Despite Henderson’s credibility, there has been some pushback by another reputable insider. On ResetEra, leaker Shinobi602 has pressed on the state of Watch Dogs as well. In a response on the forum, the insider told that the series is “not exactly” finished. When further elaborating, the user did indicate that what he is referencing is not the upcoming live-action movie.

Previously, it was revealed that Tom Blyth (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes) & Sophie Wilde (Talk To Me) were casted for the film. And, filming was completed later in September 2024. So amid the recent reports, director Mathieu Turi via a post on X did respond with “Is it?” when talks about the series going nowhere moving forward.

Are you surprised with this potential update on the Watch Dogs IP?
