While the release of Diablo III left a lasting impression, the wait for the fourth mainline entry finally arrived in 2023 a decade later. Even more, the first expansion ‘Vessel of Hatred’ left an equal impact as the base game. “With Vessel of Hatred, Diablo IV enriches its lore and gameplay with Nahantu’s terror-laden jungles and the Spiritborn’s untamable rage,” our 10/10 review for the DLC reads.

In between the two tentpole releases, Blizzard Entertainment also rolled out Diablo II: Resurrected. The title shipped in 2021 delivering the original experience to new audiences with console versions prepared. Additionally, Blizzard Entertainment also revealed that original save files from the 2000 release would also be compatible to retrieve with the newer version.

Now in 2026, Blizzard Entertainment returns with a new expansion for Diablo II: Resurrected – Reign of the Warlock. You can watch the gameplay trailer in the video below:

“The Warlock is no stranger to corruption — he’s someone who studied it. He is disciplined, ominous, and deeply embedded in Sanctuary’s upper social tiers where knowledge is power and secrets are currency. When the world starts falling apart, he doesn’t ask for permission to help. He doesn’t wait for divine guidance. He steps in, willing to do what others won’t, even if it means staining his own soul in the process,” game producer Matthew Cederquist writes.

“Witnessing this archetype evolve across the ages of Diablo has been nothing short of surreal. Each Warlock embodies a distinct take on the Warlock fantasy and spans generations—the scholarly manipulator of Diablo II: Resurrected, the punk-rock demon commander of Diablo Immortal, or the metal powerhouse that is the Diablo IV Warlock. Together, these incarnations illuminate the legacy of the Vizjerei and showcase the strength of those bold enough to wield its forbidden power.

“Reign of the Warlock is our love letter to the community that never stopped playing, to the players who kept Sanctuary alive long after the credits rolled, and to everyone who’s seen at least one sunrise while hunting loot. I can’t wait to see the builds you create. I can’t wait to hear what surprises you find. And I can’t wait to see more sunrises with all of you.”

Are you planning to return to Diablo II: Resurrected for this new expansion?
