The Mikatagahara locked gate in Nioh 3 is a sealed entrance in the Hamamatsu Hill region. This is located near the Mikatagahara Junction shrine. It blocks access to an enemy base area you can’t enter right away when you first reach it. Unlocking this gate is the key to advancing toward that enemy base and unlocking new content in this zone.

The Mikatagahara cannot be opened by default, as you need to progress through a specific quest. Behind the gate are multiple yokai enemies and a boss encounter. Defeating this boss is required to progress in the quest. Clearing the area gives you valuable loot quest completion benefits. Consider this locked gate as a quest-locked barrier in Nioh 3 that opens once you follow the proper questline.

Once unlocked, the gate leads straight into a Dark Realm filled with yokai enemies and a strong Revenant boss. Defeating this elite enemy allows you to complete Ii’s Memento in Nioh 3. Completing this quest gives you loot drops and amrita from yokai and boss fights. I recommend clearing all the yokai in the base first before facing the boss.

The Battle of Mikatagahara rewards include Samurai’s Locks, Basket Blade & Boar Cutter, and Potsicker Spear. This mission is part of the main progression and unlocks the next mission, ‘The Battle of Saigagake’.

Prepare for heavier combat and higher-level enemies for these missions in this area. Mikatagahara has numerous collectibles like loot, shrines, Kodama, spirit veins, hot springs, crucible wraiths, nurikabe, and more.

Opening shortcuts and linking shrines reduces backtracking. If you struggle, farm Amrita and gear by replaying easier missions. Fast travel back to Hamamatsu Castle to speak with the Tagekawa Ieyasu after cleansing the Mikatagahara Crucible.

Hi, I’m Ali. I started gaming with Max Payne, and it set the tone for my interest in darker, more immersive experiences. I mostly play soulslikes, RPGs, and FPS titles that focus on tight mechanics and pacing.

I have a strong appreciation for game soundtracks and how they shape the overall experience. I’m also a long-time horror fan, across both games and films, with a preference for atmosphere-driven storytelling. This space reflects that passion, exploring games through both their mechanics and the atmosphere they create.
