Nintendo to cut Switch 2 production by 30%

It has been reported by Bloomberg that Nintendo will be cutting back the production of the Nintendo Switch 2. The company is planning to cut the console’s production by at least 30% due to failed sales expectations during the holiday season in the United States.

Nintendo plans to make 4 million units of the Switch 2 this quarter, a third less than the 6 million it originally planned to produce. The reduced output rate is expected to continue in April, the outlet reports.

Lately, Pokémon Pokopia has become the only reason customers have been purchasing the Nintendo Switch 2 as of late. Although this has become a great success story, Nintendo shares fell 6.3% in Tokyo.

Nintendo Switch 2 Is Still Doing Well

While this news might seem negative for the console, it has actually been doing exceptionally well. Nintendo, as a company, had higher expectations of selling at least 20 million in its first year. As of February 2026, Switch 2 sales topped 17 million units and could still be over 20 million once June comes around.

The Nintendo Switch 2 still stands as the fastest-selling console in the history of the company and gaming consoles in general.
