Today, developer Undead Labs announced State of Decay 3 will begin its Alpha Playtests starting in May 2026. The announcement, which featured a short trailer, reveals the game will feature 4-player co-op, new mechanics, and more in the new entry in the State of Decay series.
Starting now, players can sign up for the State of Decay 3 Alpha Playtest. However, it could be a very limited Alpha. The announcement trailer features Brant Fitzgerald, co-creator of the series. He invites you and your most trusted friends to sign up for State of Decay 3 Alpha Playtests for a chance to fight back, reclaim lost ground, and carve out a life for your community of survivalists.
State of Decay 3 was revealed in 2020 during an Xbox Showcase, with very little news shared since then.
Brant Fitzgerald also mentioned the development team at Undead Labs has been closely listening to fan feedback from State of Decay 2. Their goal is to make improvements that will create an even better experience in the third game.
With the Alpha being announced just now, it’s still very possible that State of Decay 3 could be released in 2027, as reported before.
State of Decay 3 is slated to come to PC via Steam and Xbox Series.
