Dave the Diver doesn’t waste time getting you into the gameplay action. You’ll start the game by selecting New Game, and you’ll be greeted by a nice cutscene of Dave lounging on the beach. He will get a call from his friend Cobra, who bribes him with sushi. Next, Dave will go on a plane, which is also the official introduction of Dave the Diver. We have provided a complete walkthrough of the beginning of the game.
A Sushi Bar By The Blue Hole Guide
After the cutscene, Dave and Cobra will be on the boat. First, Dave will look for the sushi and suddenly recognize the Giant Blue Hole. Cobra will suggest diving into the water, where you will learn the basic mechanics of the game.
Walk to the end of the boat where you see the ladder. Hold the action button to dive. Your first objective will be to knife a fish. Find 3 small fish to use the Dive Knife on. Next will be learning the Harpoon. On Switch 2, you’ll need to use A to aim and then ZR to shoot.
Keep in mind that when harpooning your first few fish, it can only go so far. You’ll have to be a little stealthy about how you approach the fish. It might take you a few tries to land your first hit.
Once you Harpoon you first 3 fish, return to the boat to meet Cobra again. He will ask Dave if he loves sushi, and this will begin the introduction to Bancho. Walk over to the front of the boat and hit the action button to go to the sushi bar.
Dave will meet Bancho, and now there will be a sudden earthquake that will completely damage Bancho Sushi. He will ask you to catch 7 more fish so he can start to serve sushi to get the restaurant back on track and repaired.
Catch Seven Fish
Your first two missions in the game have arrived. The main mission is to Repair Bancho Sushi, and the other is to Prepare Sushi Ingredients. Now, we’ll have to catch 7 fish for Bancho.
Dive back into the water. You’ll soon learn that you can only go diving in the morning and afternoon right now. As you are in the water, you could catch any seven fish in the area. Some have more value than others when it comes to making sushi. The best way to catch the seven fish would be to use the Harpoon and find schools of fish, making it easier to catch them.
Once you catch the seven fish required for Prepare Sushi Ingredients, swim back up to return to the boat.
It will now be evening time, and you’ll add the fish to fish tank, then go back to the sushi bar.
Repair Bancho Sushi
The goal is to make 100 Gold in this mission. After you return to Bancho from catching the seven fish, he will teach you how to make ingredients and add entrees to the menu. What you add to the menu will determine how customers are satisfied and how they will pay you.
Whichever fish or other creatures you catch, you’ll be able to create a meal. As you see in the image above, we have a few options based on what we caught. It also tells you how many can be made from what you obtained.
Green Tea is a major part of serving customers early on. Provided how you pour it, this could give the customer a positive or negative experience. The key here is not to pour very fast or very slow. It’s initially challenging to do, but once you really learn, it’ll get easier. Customers will pay more if it’s served Good.
Next, Bancho will be making Cobra sushi, and you will need to deliver it to him in a timely manner. There is a sprinting option for Dave, but he also has stamina. Make sure to use it carefully when serving lots of people.
Now, Open Bancho Sushi once you have the menu ready. Customers will place orders for whichever sushi they want. At least three will come at the start, and some will ask for Green Tea. This session won’t complete the mission yet, but should help you earn at least 40 Gold if not higher, depending on how well you serve the Green Tea.
At the end of the day, when the bar closes, Bancho will provide a sales report and a grade on how well you performed. The goal is to always hit a five-star rating.
Sunday 10/02
On Sunday, Ellie will start calling your phone to begin your first side job. It’s recommended to do this because it will fulfill the main mission Repair Bancho Sushi. She will ask you to get her (2) Agar and (2) Red Starfish underwater.
Starfish Locations
In the first part of this side mission, you’ll likely find the Starfish first before the Agar. Once you dive into the water, you’ll see the first one right away. On the bottom left, at about 13.0m in depth you’ll find the first one.
Continue moving east, and you will continue until you see the second Red Starfish at 22.6M in depth. You may also find O2 tanks that will help you last longer underwater as you search for these materials.
Agar Location
After finding the Red Starfish, continue swimming east, and then you’ll want to dive deeper to about 37.6M in depth to find the Agar you need. You’ll see there are four of them in one area. All you need to do is use the knife to cut them.
To find the Agar, once you see the four Jellyfish above a tall mound of rocks, dive south just like the image below:

After getting the required creatures for Ellie, you can return to the boat or even explore a little bit and catch some fish!
For completing this side mission, you’ll earn the following:
Red Ecological Data Rewards
- 70 Gold
- (5) Olive Oil
- (5) Soy Sauce
Completing this mission will also complete the Repair Bancho Sushi mission.
Weaponsmith Duff
Next, Cobra will say you should get a gun, and this is where he’ll introduce you to Duff. In order to get your first gun, Duff will require you to get 1 Rope and 1 Scrap Iron introducing you to the next side mission, Weaponsmith Duff.
Finding Rope
This mission is very easy and straightforward. The Rope will be located Southeast from when you start diving at 30.9M in depth.
Scrap Iron Location
The last piece, Scrap Iron, is located more East of the Rope you found. Continue going to the right and start going south to about 42.5M in depth, and you’ll easily find the Scrap Iron.
After getting the Scrap Iron, you can either catch more fish, explore, or return to the boat.
Once you return to the boat, Duff will start talking to you. He will provide you with the Basic Underwater Rifle and will introduce you to Duff’s Weapon Shop app on your phone. This app will show a list of the guns you have and their statistics. Lastly, Duff will allow you to open Weapon Chests underwater.
Head back to Bancho Sushi and open up the restaurant to conclude Sunday, 10/02. Once you finish the day, you’ll have now completed the Prologue in Dave the Diver.
Up next on Monday, 10/03, you’ll meet Dr. Bacon, who will tell you about the Sea People Civilization. He will upgrade your diving gear, allowing you to explore more underwater.
This will take us into Chapter 1 – Traces of the Sea People.
