It has been reported that a remake of Baldur’s Gate II is currently in development under Wizards of the Coast. According to PC Gamer, former BioWare developer and Baldur’s Gate II co-lead designer Kevin Martens will return for the project.
Kevin Martens has been working on Exodues, the Mass Effect-like RPG at Archetype Entertainment. PC Gamer’s sources claim that Martens is already working on the Baldur’s Gate II remake.
The report also claims that a remake of the original Baldur’s Gate is likely getting the remake treatment, “from what we’ve heard”.
Larian Studios mentioned a few years ago that they have no plans to release Baldur’s Gate 4. It’s safe to assume that the remake reports could be true, given that the studio isn’t looking into the future of the series. Baldur’s Gate 3 was a huge success for Larian Studios and Wizards of the Coast, and we’ll see how the remakes do, if it’s true.
