In the same arena as CounterStrike, CrossFire has remained a very popular military shooter in Asian territories. When attempting for a larger presence in the west, we got CrossFireX. The game in partnership with Xbox featured both a multiplayer alongside a story campaign. The single-player portion was in development by Remedy Entertainment.

While announced during the global pandemic, CrossFireX did receive a later release scheduled for 2022. SmileGate Entertainment also held an early access beta to try out the game which did show some promise. But with the the final version offering a muddled story as well as a moderately serviceable online, it did not live long. By 2023, CrossFireX was completely shuttered officially.

At Summer Game Fest this week, There’s No Moon – a team consisting of veteran developers of Infinity Ward and other AAA studios – announced CrossFire. You can watch the trailer in the video below:

“From the very beginning, we aligned around a clear north star: narrative and design should not exist separately from one another. The story should shape the gameplay, and the gameplay should deepen the story. Every mechanic, every player action, and every emotional beat should feel inseparable from one another. That idea shaped every aspect of Crossfire,” There’s No Moon pens in the announcement blog post.

“We believe deeply in the power of character-driven single-player games and in the unique ability of interactive storytelling to create tension, empathy, and human connection in ways no other medium can. When narrative and gameplay are truly working together, players are not simply watching the story unfold — they are living it.”

Are you excited to see more of the new CrossFire?

CrossFire is listed for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
