
The range that Grand Theft Auto has on the industry is immense to say the least. Despite its last entry shipping over a decade ago, Grand Theft Auto VI is on the horizon. It was reaffirmed by Take-Two Interactive that the sequel is still set to release later this November. In a separate report, it was calculated roughly $1 billion was invested into the development of Grand Theft Auto VI by the parent company.
As for the current Grand Theft Auto V, the game has taken on new forms. The title back in 2022 received a next-generation update for XBOX Series X|S & PlayStation 5. Noted, the versions were pay-walled and required more handing out to access. Similarly, the same enhancements also arrived to PC in a later update in 2025 last winter.
Now starting today, Grand Theft Auto V for both current XBOX & PlayStation systems will be offered as a free upgrade. No longer will users who are just now joining the ninth console generation will they need to buy their way in for Grand Theft Auto V. Purchasing the complete version cost $20: $10 for both Story Mode & GTA Online individually. This comes ahead of a new heist coming in July.
“Those who own any PS4 version or the digital Xbox One version of Grand Theft Auto V will be able to upgrade to the PS5 or Xbox Series X|S versions at no additional cost, and experience the best versions of GTAV and GTA Online ahead of the launch of The Kortz Center Heist,” Rockstar Games penned in the new Newswire blog post.
“GTAV and GTA Online on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S feature vast technical improvements, easy migration of your Story Mode and Online progress, and new features including Hao’s Special Works high-performance vehicles and upgrades, Career Progress rewards, and much more.” Adding: “PC players can also experience all these updates along with PC-only features, such as ray traced ambient occlusion and global illumination, by upgrading from Legacy to Enhanced for free.”
